Copy and Paste or Download a list of Roman Emperors in many popular formats. The Roman Empire was a government that ruled over the Mediterranean world for centuries. It was founded by the Romans and it lasted until the fall of Rome in 476 AD. The empire was made up of many different states, each with its own culture and language, although Latin was the common language.
Rome was originally a kingdom, and then a Republic. It was Julius Ceaser who transformed it into an empire, doing away with the old Republic and transforming Rome forever. Julius Caesar was not an emperor but a dictator and he ruled for 13 years. He was assassinated in 44 BC by a group of senators who feared that he would become too powerful.
The first emperor of Rome was August Ceaser. He was born in the year 63 BC and died in the year 14 AD. He ruled for 44 years and is considered one of the most influential emperors in history.
Rome was split into two different empires the east and the west. The east was ruled by the Byzantine Empire and the west by the Roman Empire.
The Byzantine Empire was a continuation of the Roman Empire in all but name, and it lasted for nearly a thousand years. The Byzantine Empire fell in 1453 when Constantinople, the capital city of Byzantium, was conquered by Ottoman Turks.
