Mathematics Lists

Maths (or Math) is an important subject in the field of mathematics, and it is used in many other fields. It is also a part of our daily lives. Below are some links to lists about numbers and all fields of mathematics that you might find helpful.

List of Numbers and Maths

Numbers are Everywhere

Numbers are present in our day-to-day lives. They seem to be everywhere and we often take them for granted. But, numbers and math can be key to success in many different areas of life. From your bank account to your weight, numbers can be used as a guide for difficult decision-making or as a representation of something important such as the number of hours you slept last night.

The study of mathematics goes back thousands of years and is filled with many discoveries and inventions. From arithmetic to algebra, geometry, and calculus, math has found ways to be applied to every field imaginable. With technological innovations such as smartphones and social media, the way we learn math may never be the same.

Mathematics has areas of study that include many different subjects, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and statistics. It is an essential part of many fields, including natural sciences, engineering, medicine, finance, computer science, and social sciences.

Practical vs Applied Mathematics

Applied mathematics is the use of math for practical purposes. The subject area can be divided into two broad categories: applied mathematics and pure mathematics. Applied mathematics includes areas such as statistics, game theory, and operations research.

It is often the case that a mathematician will work on a problem for years without applying any of the knowledge to any real-world situation. Even though they might not know it at the time, many mathematical discoveries have later been applied to other fields for solving practical problems in those areas.

Despite the majority of English words now being on a 10 base system, there are some 12 based systems. Babylonian numerals for example, which is the oldest recorded numeral system, was 12 based.

Universal Langauage of Numbers

Worldwide, mathematics is the most commonly shared subject with consistent standards. This means that regardless of your language, math skills are universally useful. For example, a high school student from Ghana could be working on the same problem as a high school student from Austria.

However, while numbers are a universal language, they can be used differently in different parts of the world. For example, Arabic speakers write their numbers (and words) from right to left instead of from left to right.
